Description
The American Institute of Physics is seeking an inquisitive and passionate Science Policy Reporter. The reporter will write about federal policy developments for FYI, an authoritative news and resource center for science policy. Founded in 1989, FYI has built an influential subscriber base that includes many prominent figures in the U.S. scientific community, leaders of federal science agencies, congressional staff, and journalists.
The reporter's primary responsibility is to write, edit, and publish content for multiple FYI products as part of an editorial team.
Other responsibilities include but are not limited to
* Reporting on congressional hearings, federal agency events, scientific society meetings, and other relevant events;
* Summarizing legislative activity, budget proposals, leadership changes, and other policy developments relevant to the physical sciences;
* Contributing content to a suite of FYI newsletters and resources, including web-based tools for tracking federal science budgets, legislation, and leaders; and
* Participating in weekly editorial meetings and editing other team members' articles.

Qualifications
* Candidates should complete the entire application and upload a cover letter and a resume.
Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree and at least three years of experience working in science policy, science writing, or policy reporting. Strong consideration will be given to applicants who have journalistic experience, graduate-level training in science policy, or direct experience working with federal science organizations. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required, including the ability to write articles on tight deadlines.
