Postdoctoral Researcher in Marine Nitrogen Cycling
The Department of Biology at the University of Southern Denmark invites applications for a position as Postdoc in marine biogeochemistry. The position is available from 1 January 2020 and is offered for two years.
Application deadline: 20 September 2019.
The position is associated with a project investigating the pivotal role of nitrite in controlling recycling versus loss in the marine nitrogen cycle in oceanic oxygen minimum zones. This interdisciplinary project will take advantage of recent technological advances in in-situ technology and molecular techniques. Our overarching aim is to identify the organisms and pathways involved in nitrite oxidation and their distributions, allowing us to assess the role of nitrite oxidation in the marine nitrogen cycle today and in the future.
The research objectives of this position include the quantification of rates and elucidation of pathways of nitrite oxidation in oxygen minimum zone waters. Experimental techniques will include the application of stable isotopes as process tracers both in-situ and in laboratory settings. Hence, we seek a candidate with a background in biogeochemistry or related fields, who has an aptitude for experimental investigations and fieldwork and an interest in instrument development. The selected candidate will be part of an international team of biogeochemists and microbial ecologists and work closely together with other colleagues in the Nordcee research group at the Department of Biology.
