The Department of Geosciences at the University of Arizona is seeking a
full-time postdoctoral researcher with research interests in large-scale
atmospheric dynamics in past, present, and future climates. Initial
appointment is for 12-months, with the possibility of extension for a second
year (subject to funding). Salary commensurate with experience. The work
will be supervised by Dr. Marcus Lofverstrom. Job will begin during Fall
semester 2019.
Position summary:
The successful candidate will use the CMIP5/6 archives, the NCAR Large
Ensemble, or related datasets to study factors that drive and modulate
extreme precipitation events in mid- and high latitudes. In addition, the
selected candidate will conduct original research, write manuscripts for
publication, actively participate in professional meetings, and collaborate
with faculty and graduate students at the University of Arizona.
Skills and abilities:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong programming
abilities (e.g., Python and/or Matlab), and experience working with large
gridded datasets are desired.
Qualifications:
The successful applicant must hold a Ph.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) in
meteorology, oceanography, climate science, or a related field when starting
the job. To hold a position as a postdoctoral researcher an employee must be
within 5 years of receiving their Ph.D. degree.
