Hello all,

I am recruiting a postdoc in the field of climate modeling. For more information, feel free to contact me (Jed Kaplan) by email.

Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in Regional and Global Climate Modeling in the Department of Earth Sciences (Ref.: 495474), to commence on September 1, 2019 for two years, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Earth and/or Atmospheric Sciences, Geography, or related fields, with experience in setting up, running, and postprocessing results from a regional or global climate model. They should also have a research track record including publications in peer-reviewed journals as corresponding author, and demonstrated interpersonal skills. Applicants with an interest in paleoclimate and/or human-environment interactions are particularly encouraged to apply.

The appointee will join the new Laboratory for Earth System Modeling at the University of Hong Kong, led by Dr. Jed O. Kaplan. He/She will be responsible for setting up a climate modeling facility but otherwise have wide latitude to define his/her own topics of research. The appointee will also have the opportunities to co-supervise graduate students (M.Phil., Ph.D.) and participate in grant-writing to secure additional funding. Opportunities will also be given to participate in international conferences and workshops, mentoring, training, and other forms of professional development.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.

The University only accepts online applications for the above post. Applicants should apply online and upload an up-to-date C.V., a cover letter and a research proposal describing 1-2 projects they would work on during the coming years (2-3 pages including references). All application materials must be in PDF format only. Applicants should also arrange three reference letters to be sent to Dr. Jed Kaplan (e-mail: jkaplan at hku.hk) directly by the referees. Review of applications will commence as soon as possible and continue until April 30, 2019, or until the post is filled, whichever is earlier.
