Position Summary


The Caswell Silver Visiting Faculty Fellowship provides the opportunity for visiting faculty on sabbatical and visiting researchers from other universities, institutes or entities to collaborate (teaching and research) with faculty in the Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences (EPS) at the University of New Mexico. The position provides financial support (salary supplement, research and travel costs). Requirements for the fellowship include a minimum of two months in residence at UNM and teaching a module in an aspect of Applied Geosciences. The fellowship is for a period during spring of the academic year 2018-19 (January 14, 2019-May 11, 2019).

The Fellowship is provided through the support of the Caswell Silver Foundation. The Caswell Silver Foundation was created in 1980 through an endowment by Caswell Silver, an alumnus of our program. The Foundation was established with the purpose of supporting graduate education and research at the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of New Mexico. Selection criteria include academic merit, potential or existing collaboration with EPS faculty, and a description of the proposed educational module on the theme of an aspect of Applied Geosciences that will be offered to EPS students. Application consists of a letter of intent indicating 1. desired term of residence, 2. the description of the teaching module and 3. listing of potential or existing collaborative interactions; 4. Curriculum vitae.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

MS in Geosciences or a related field.

3 or more years of experience in Applied Geosciences.

Preferred Qualifications:

1.       PhD in Geosciences or related field.

2.       Demonstrated expertise in applied geosciences.

3.       Commitment to provide a learning experience for undergrad/graduate students in an area of Applied Geoscience.

4.       Potential for interactions in ongoing research and teaching in the Department.

5.       A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.

6.       5 or more years experience in Applied Geosciences.

Applicants who are appointed to a UNM faculty position are required to provide an official certification of successful completion of all degree requirements prior to their initial employment with UNM.
