Earth Science Project Office Deputy Project Manager
Job Summary:
The Bay Area Environmental Research (BAER) Institute, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation focused on enabling and conducting research in earth and space science, is looking for an experienced Deputy Project Manager to join the Earth Science Projects Office (ESPO). The individual will provide project support to the ESPO team, a small group of success-oriented individuals providing project management for NASA's Earth Science Mission Directorate field research. Located at the NASA Research Park at Moffett Field, CA, ESPO provides planning, implementation and post-mission support for large, complex, multi-agency, national and international field campaigns. .
Position Summary:
The qualified candidate will be responsible for the project management planning, activities and requirements related to the deployment of personnel, equipment, and supplies required for the earth science missions planning, coordinating and executing logistics support, and supporting project activities and requirements related to the deployment of personnel, equipment, and supplies required for national and international science missions. We are looking for applicants who are organized, detail oriented and self-motivated. Teamwork and dedication to the mission of ESPO and BAER is a must.
Essential Functions:
1. Assists Project Manager in planning and coordinating complex field campaigns including ground, airborne- and ship-based platforms to accomplish project objectives.
2. Supports project documentation, communications and budget tracking.
3. Communicates with other ESPO team members to ensure logistics, project coordinating and IT tasks are planned and executed in a timely manner.
4. Supports meetings and takes minutes/tracks actions as needed.
5. Supports evaluation of the deployment site location, planning and set up and teardown of facilities for large deployment operation sites (e.g., physical set up of offices and labs, interfacing with aircraft management to assure all proper ground support equipment is available when needed, etc.).
6. Collects science team information and documentation for deployment site access and security.
7. Tracks and oversees the progress of team tasks and deliverables.
8. Other functions as required by the position.

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in business administration or project management certification; or
Minimum of three to five years of experience planning, coordinating and executing project activities.
Requirements:
Must have good working knowledge of personal computers, email, and basic office software. Also, employee must be able to learn basic computer network configuration and setup. Must maintain all NASA/BAERI required training and maintain compliance with all regulations.
Travel:
The position requires extensive and sometimes frequent U.S. and International travel. Generally, you should expect to travel 3-4 months per year for up to 30 days at a time. Required overnight travel may be as high as 40% of the time.
Security Clearance:
Must be able to pass security background checks for field campaigns that involve working with the military, TSA, and the State Department.
Citizenship Requirement:
Must be U.S. Citizen, Lawful Permanent Resident, or Foreign National eligible for either a nonimmigrant visa for temporary stay, or an immigrant visa for permanent residence.
Work Environment:
Position requires some moderate discomfort resulting from working outdoors, or in warehouse and airport environments, requiring exposure to chemicals, fumes, low/high temperatures, high humidity, or drafty or noisy conditions, although personal protective equipment will be provided
Physical Demands:
Must be physically fit and be able to move large boxes (often weighing more than 50 pounds), load trucks, and arrange and sort equipment.
Other Position Requirements:
Responsible for carrying out assigned duties in a manner consistent with the safety policies defined by the ESPO managers. Reports safety hazards, potentially hazardous situations, and close calls to the ESPO managers, and help to identify and eliminate un-safe conditions.

Starting Salary:
* $70,000- $75,000, depending on experience, plus benefits (healthcare, life insurance and retirement).
