Postdoctoral position in atmospheric science and greenhouse gas modeling at Johns Hopkins University

The greenhouse gas research group at Johns Hopkins University (Asst. professor Scot Miller) is hiring a post-doctoral fellow.

The specific research focus of this position is flexible, and the projects undertaken by the fellow will depend, in part, upon the fellow's interests. Broadly speaking, we use observations of greenhouse gases collected from airplanes, towers, and satellites to estimate greenhouse gas sources and sinks across the United States and the globe. Our recent projects investigate methane emissions from the US oil and gas industries, natural greenhouse gas sources from the Arctic, and the effectiveness of recent greenhouse gas regulations in China.

Most of the group's work utilizes atmospheric models, high performance computing, and statistical analysis; to this end, applicants should be comfortable with scientific computing (e.g., R, Matlab, Python) on a large computer cluster. Experience in atmospheric modeling and/or inverse modeling is also a plus. The greenhouse gas research group is situated within the Department of Environmental Health and Engineering (https://ehe.jhu.edu/) and the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences (http://eps.jhu.edu/) at Johns Hopkins. There are numerous opportunities to collaborate with a broad range of scientists in these departments -- experts in atmospheric chemistry, oceanography, energy systems, and the health impacts of air pollution. There are also opportunities to collaborate with scientists at NASA and NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) laboratories in Maryland near the Hopkins campus.
