Job Summary:
The Division of Coastal Sciences<https://gcrl.usm.edu/coastal_sciences/index.php> in the School of Ocean Science and Engineering (SOSE)<https://www.usm.edu/school-ocean-science-and-technology> at The University of Southern Mississippi invites qualified applicants for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty position in Marine Resource Economics or Socio-Economics at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level to begin in Fall 2019.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
We seek a resource economist, socio-economist and/or policy expert to focus on coastal and marine natural assessment and management and coupled natural/human systems. Areas of research are broad, and include, but are not limited to: evaluation & valuation of ecosystem services; applying social science to resource management; societal impacts of environmental change; coastal resilience; stakeholder engagement; aquaculture; fisheries; energy; health.
The candidate will be expected to develop a strong, externally funded research program, publish in peer-reviewed literature, mentor, participate in graduate instruction and develop courses in their area of study (e.g., economic concepts, ecosystem services, human & natural systems, environmental law). Preference will be given to applicants showing potential for collaboration within SOSE, and other units including USM’s College of Business and Economic Development<https://www.usm.edu/business>.

SOSE includes two academic divisions, Coastal Sciences, and Marine Science<https://www.usm.edu/marine>, and four R&D centers: Center for Fisheries Research and Development, Thad Cochran Marine Aquaculture Center, Marine Education Center and Marine Research Center. The position will be located in Ocean Springs at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory<http://gcrl.usm.edu/>. Ocean Springs<http://ci.ocean-springs.ms.us/page/About-Us> is known for its beauty, natural resources, and arts. It is home to galleries, restaurants, and schools that are ranked among the best in the state.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline.
Preferred Qualifications:
Record of scholarship, service, grant development, communication, and commitment to diversity. For appointment at Associate or Full Professor level candidates should have evidence of consistent research funding, productivity, and a national or international reputation for excellence in their discipline.
