The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of
California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a tenure track
faculty position in solid Earth geophysics. We are especially interested in
applicants who utilize modern data collection and analysis tools theory
and/or numerical modeling to investigate crustal or deep Earth processes.
Fields of interest include, but are not limited to, geodesy, geodynamics,
physical volcanology, and structural seismology.

The successful candidate will develop a leading edge, externally funded
research program, have a strong commitment to mentoring and teaching
graduate and undergraduate students, and interact with a diverse UCSC
community of Earth, Atmospheric, Planetary, and Ocean scientists. This
position will complement existing expertise in earthquake physics,
seismology, mineral physics, surface processes, glaciology, geochemistry,
planetary sciences, and hydrogeology. The successful candidate must be able
to work with students, faculty and staff from a wide range of social and
cultural backgrounds. We welcome candidates who understand the barriers

careers (as evidenced by life experiences and educational background), and
who have experience in equity and diversity with respect to teaching,
mentoring, research, life experiences, or service towards building an
equitable and diverse scholarly environment.

ACADEMIC TITLE
Assistant Professor

SALARY
Commensurate with qualifications and experience; academic year (nine-month
basis).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. or equivalent foreign degree in Geosciences or a related field. It is
expected that the degree requirement will be completed by June 30, 2019.

POSITION AVAILABLE
July 1, 2019, with academic year beginning September 2019. Degree
requirements must be completed by June 30, 2019 for employment beyond that
date.
