*Graduate Research Assistantships in Agricultural Biogeochemistry*

We are seeking applicants for two Ph.D. research assistantships focused on
the biogeochemistry of agricultural systems and associated water resources
in the Northern Great Plains. Research will focus on the fate and transport
of solutes and agricultural amendments across spatial gradients, with goals
that include characterizing reactive transport in soils, groundwater and
streams within dryland cereal production and rangeland systems of central
Montana. The project is based at Montana State University, is funded for up
to five years, and provides opportunity to work within an interdisciplinary
team of biogeochemists, physical chemists, materials scientists, social
scientists, and hydrologists from multiple universities. The project will
combine field and laboratory analysis, with an expectation of some extended
visits to the field site throughout the duration of the study.

The incoming students will join the Department of Land Resources and
Environmental Sciences (http://landresources.montana.edu/) at Montana State
University; however, they may also participate in interdisciplinary
communities at Montana State University, such as those in the Institute on
Ecosystems (http://montanaioe.org/). Research assistantships provide
competitive annual stipends and benefits, and students will be provided
with opportunities to develop meaningful teaching and mentoring experience.
