The Nah Research group in the School of Energy and Environment at City University of Hong Kong is currently looking for up to two highly motivated, talented and creative Ph.D. students to work on projects related to the multiphase chemistry of atmospheric aerosols. Successful applicants will use laboratory and field studies to research how urban-terrestrial-oceanic interactions influence atmospheric processes in subtropical coastal and marine environments, with a particular focus on the multiphase chemistry of aerosols. These Ph.D. graduate studentships are fully funded for the duration of the program. Any continuation of financial support is contingent upon the student’s satisfactory research and academic progress.
Applicants should have (or are expected to have by the time of commencement) a Master’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree, with research experience in chemistry, atmospheric sciences, environmental sciences/engineering, chemical engineering, earth sciences, or a related science or engineering field. Experience with aerosol and/or atmospheric chemistry research, analytical techniques related to atmospheric sampling (e.g., mass spectrometry, ion chromatography), and data analysis is highly desired. Some aptitude with scientific programming (e.g., Igor pro, Matlab) is preferred. Effective written and oral communication skills in English are necessary.
To apply, please send the following items to Dr. Theodora Nah (theodora.nah at cityu.edu.hk <mailto:theodora.nah at cityu.edu.hk>): (1) a cover letter (max. 2 pages) describing your research experience and interests, (2) a complete C.V., (3) names and contact information of three references, (4) copies of academic transcripts, and (5) the abstract of your Master’s thesis (if applicable).
Review of all applications will begin immediately. Applicants will also have to go through a centralized admission process through City University of Hong Kong. Successful applicants will start in September 2019. Enquiries are encouraged.
