Job Description:
The Research Associate II will provide remote sensing and GIS expertise focused on the development of products, models, and other tools supporting disaster preparedness, risk reduction, mitigation, response, and/or recovery. The candidate for this position should have some hands-on experience through education or past work in land surface remote sensing in the visible, near-infrared, and infrared, and/or applications of synthetic aperture radar. They should have some familiarity with meteorological concepts and common types of Earth Science hazards/disaster scenarios including severe storms, heavy rainfall and flooding, tropical cyclones, fires, and/or earthquakes. The incumbent will be expected to support the analysis of various data sets supporting broader research and application objectives, and to contribute to disaster response activities as needed.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Earth System Science or Meteorology/12-15 months of full-time verifiable work experience/must have hands-on experience with satellite data analysis and Graphic Information Systems (GIS) acquired through academic coursework/experience with NASA and other remote sensing data sets is required/must have the ability to communicate effectively in speaking and writing/Master's degree in Earth Science or Meteorology is preferred/experience in large data processing of remote sensing data is desired/experience in technical-scientific presentations is preferred/1 year of hands-on experience with satellite data analysis is desired/1 year of experience in technical writing for papers and proposals is preferred
