The faculty and staff of the CSUS Geology Department are committed to providing the best possible geological education. We meet this commitment through high-quality teaching, close student-faculty interaction, undergraduate and graduate research and an emphasis on field geology.

We offer B.A. and B.S. degrees in Geology and a B.A. degree in Earth Science. We also offer a Master of Science degree in Geology, with student opportunities in applied hydrogeology, aqueous geochemistry, engineering geology, geophysics, groundwater modeling, igneous petrology, mineralogy, sedimentology & stratigraphy, structure & tectonics, surficial processes, and volcanology.

Essential Duties


* Teaching upper division and general education courses in geology
* Developing curriculum in undergraduate/graduate courses in area of specialization
* Advising students within major
* Conducting research and maintaining a positive professional profile in the discipline
* Supervising undergraduate and Master's student research
* Actively support Department and University programs designed to recruit and retain underrepresented students in geology
* Provide service to the campus and community.

Required Qualifications


- Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in geology or a related field. ABD candidates will be considered. If ABD, candidates will be required to complete the doctoral degree prior to August 2018.
- Applicants must demonstrate a commitment and ability to work with a diverse
student population.

Preferred Qualifications


- Specialize in geodesy, geoscience education, earth materials, engineering geology, soils, or surface water. Other specialties may be considered that fit the needs of the department.
- Teaching experience at the University level.
- Focus on field-based research interests.
- Applicants should demonstrate the ability to utilize technology or other innovative strategies
to improve access to high demand GE courses.
