What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee in Geochemistry/Atmospheric
chemistry. Are you looking to do innovative and creative research? Do you
want to be a member of a high performing team? We are a diverse,
interdisciplinary team of scientists and professionals. Consider joining our
team.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

. Perform chemical/thermodynamic modeling of atmospheric aerosols and
deliquescent brines, and aerosol exchange reactions with atmospheric gasses;

. Work as a team member performing experimental and computational
studies evaluating the composition and evolution of deliquescent brines on
heated metal surfaces;

. Work on a multi-disciplinary team involving several university and
national lab partners evaluating the potential atmospheric corrosion of
stainless steel structures;

. Work to produce publications that show the creative research
performed which you can publish in leading technical journals and
presentations at national and international technical meetings.

Qualifications We Require

. PhD in Atmospheric Science, Geochemistry, or a closely related
discipline;

. Expertise in chemical modeling of atmospheric aerosols and exchange
reactions with atmospheric gases, or in geochemical modeling of concentrated
salt solutions;

. Laboratory experience with experimental design and materials
characterization/analysis;

. Strong record of independent research, peer-reviewed publications
and conference presentations;

. Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire

. Prior experience working with atmospheric datasets such as CASTNET
and AQS;

. Familiarity with atmospheric corrosion processes;Record of
interdisciplinary research collaborations;

About Our Team

The Storage and Transportation Technologies Department conducts the R&D to
support the development of the technical basis for the extended storage and
transportation of commercial used nuclear fuel, and safeguards and security
modeling and analysis of nuclear fuel cycle facilities. The department
produces peer-reviewed research reports pertaining to many areas of Used
Nuclear Fuel Storage, Transportation, and Security including: Modeling and
analysis of basic uranium chemistry; chemical instigators and mitigate of
stress corrosion cracking of stainless steel; analysis of stress and strain
on used nuclear fuel rods, cladding, and assemblies; Mod & Sim for Analysis
for Safeguards and Security of Used Fuel. In addition, we produce
peer-reviewed research reports in the areas of: Modeling and analysis of new
concepts of geothermal well production; carbon sequestration efficiency
improvements, and the understanding of radiation damage on microstructures.
