Summary of Position
The University of North Carolina Wilmington is hiring faculty for interdisciplinary clusters to strengthen its academic offerings and research mission in coastal and marine sciences. The goal of these efforts is to bring together a core group of faculty who work across traditional curricular and research boundaries to strengthen UNCW's established excellence in coastal and marine sciences.
Consistent with the Department of Environmental Sciences' increasing emphasis on sustainability, the department is hiring a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Renewable Energy Science and Policy beginning August 2018. (This position will complement a cluster hire in the Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences with expertise related to the application of geosciences to resources and energy.)
The hire will develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in renewable energy science and policy, in addition to supporting the current environmental sciences curriculum. Furthermore, this hire will engage in an active agenda of publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and generation of externally-funded research.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates for the Renewable Energy Science and Policy position must have completed a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in a natural science or engineering field by August 2018.
The Department seeks candidates with a science background and a current focus on policy who enjoy interdisciplinary collaboration in a supportive academic environment. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent, dynamic teaching, an ability to publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and the ability to generate externally-funded research.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with corporate or government agency experience in renewable energy and who meet the other selection criteria are encouraged to apply.
