Overview
Serves as the primary liaison to the APHA Environment Section’s Climate Change Topic Committee, as well as to various partner organizations. Implements APHA’s climate change activities and responsible for monitoring budgets, grant management and program development. Works closely with colleagues in communications, government relations and public affairs to advance the APHA legislative climate change agenda, and develops products and materials as needed. This is a two-year grant-funded position, with the possibility of continuation based on funding and performance.
Responsibilities
Works closely with the Deputy Director, Center for Public Health Policy to plan and implement programmatic activities on climate, health and equity, and track all work and outcomes. Leads development and dissemination of materials and products. Develops content for grant applications. Oversees the work of sub-contractors and consultant as outlined in grant deliverables. Leads APHA’s key partnership and coalition building initiatives regarding climate change issues of national importance. Maintains and builds strong relationships with program officers and other external partners. Serves as liaison to the environment section, and other sections, of APHA. Work closely with members on advancing climate, health and equity and galvanizing them to take action.
Qualifications
Master’s degree and 4 years of experience in public health, policy or a related field. Exceptional communications skills, including versatile writing capabilities. Expertise in one area of environmental health such as climate change, health equity and broad-based knowledge of health policy. Excellent analytical skills. Grant and project management experience. candidate will bring demonstrable experience in program management, a strong background working with teams and partnerships, and strategic thinking to launch this initiative. They will have strong experience working with teams on complex programs, optimism, resourcefulness, a strong self-awareness, cultural competence, and emotional intelligence. Most important their values will align with our values of excellence, transparency, sustainability, and respect as well as a passion for climate justice and health equity.
Hours: 35 hours a week, Full-time, Monday thru Friday. Number of openings: 1. (This is not a telework position)
