Perform the research, analysis, design and development of new technologies, techniques, and implementations for LIDAR, LADAR, and/or other laser remote sensing systems, with emphasis on detector technologies and their applications to sensors. Lead the research and development of advanced LADAR detection technologies, techniques, and subsystems both internal to Lockheed Martin and through collaboration with industry and/or Government partners. Lead teams though concept development, modeling and simulation, design, assembly, testing, and analysis at all levels of technical maturity. Perform technical writing for reports and proposals, prepare and deliver presentations, interact with team members and customers, and both lead and support technical development projects. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, internal and external customers, suppliers and other stakeholders. Perform other duties as necessary. The successful candidate will have strong analytic and communication skills and work well in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment.
Desired Skills: Master's or Ph.D degree in science, math, engineering, or related discipline

Knowledge of a wide range of detector technologies for use in the full optical spectrum from ultraviolet (UV) through long-wave infrared (LWIR) wavelengths.

Knowledge of laser remote sensing and/or laser-based free-space optical communications theory, applications, systems and techniques.

Experience with both direct-detection and coherent-detection techniques.

Ability to develop novel sensor concepts and architectures, including: strawman sensor concept design; architecture trade studies; feasibility analysis; modeling and simulation; optical design

  * Expertise in optical theory and design, including radiometry, geometrical optics, physical optics, Fourier optics, adaptive optics, and/or fiber optics.

Knowledge and/or experience in related technologies, including:

  * Real-time processing systems, FPGAs, micro-controllers, measurement and acquisition hardware
  * Photonic-Integrated Circuit (PIC) physics, design, technologies and applications.
  * RF electronics, analog electronics, digital electronics
  * Control systems, including theory, design, and operation
  * Signal and data processing, including processing hardware and software/algorithms
  *   Lasers and nonlinear optics

TS/SCI Security Clearance
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate must have a strong understanding of physics and mathematics associated with design, development, and use of photo-detectors, readout integrated circuits (ROICs), and interface/control electronics and software for use in optical receivers for laser remote sensing and laser communications applications. Specific experience with Geiger mode avalanche photodiodes (GmAPDs) is required.

The candidate should have strong technical writing, presentation and overall communication skills for reports, proposals, technical presentations, and interaction with customers, team members, and suppliers. The selected candidate must be able to communicate complex ideas and explain relevant technology and concepts to an audience of both experts and non-experts.

U.S. Citizen with willingness and ability to obtain Security Clearance.
