Princeton University Postdoctoral Fellowship in Atmospheric Chemistry

Satellite and airborne ammonia measurements (atmospheric chemistry)

The Atmospheric Chemistry and Composition Group in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Princeton University is seeking two postdoctoral positions (or more senior researchers) for:

1) development and field deployment of optical instrumentation for measurements of ammonia in the atmosphere. The ideal candidate will have experience in the design and characterization of laser-based sensors and knowledge of the challenges of field measurements of the atmosphere. The ammonia sensor will be deployed as part of the NASA FIREX-AQ field study in 2019, and the postdoctoral researcher will be expected to be the day-to-day lead in the measurements during the field campaign.

2) satellite-based analyses of ammonia measurements. Satellite ammonia measurements, in combination with other remote sensing measurements and surface observations, will be analyzed over source regions in order to improve emission inventories, with a particular focus over developing regions. The candidate will work closely with modeling collaborators at NOAA GFDL.

For both positions, the postdoctoral researcher will lead and collaborate with a team of graduate students, research and support staff members, undergraduate students, and external collaborators.

The initial term of appointment is for one year with the possibility of renewal based on satisfactory performance and funding. This position is subject to the University's background check policy. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis with a preference for a fall 2018 start date. Please indicate availability in the cover letter. Candidates must apply online at

and submit the following items on the site: 1) a cover letter; 2) curriculum vita; 3) a statement describing your research capabilities and how they match the position description; 4) contact information for three references. Please indicate the position to which you are applying in the cover letter.

Essential qualifications: experience with instrument development and/or optical sensing and/or satellite measurements, knowledge of atmospheric science and chemistry

Preferred qualifications: proficiency with LabView/MATLAB or similar software

Education required: doctoral degree

These positions are subject to the University’s background check policy
