Postdoctoral position for “Satellite data integration for global 
cropland mapping.”

Description: Stanford University’s Center on Food Security and the 
Environment (FSE) seeks 1-2 post-doctoral scholars to join a team 
developing global agricultural datasets. The project involves combining 
imagery from multiple sensors (Landsat, Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, Planet, 
Skysat, and MODIS) with gridded weather, soil, and management data to 
produce annual maps of various properties, including crop types and 
yields. Post-docs are sought both to assist in the development of 
methods, as well as to lead studies that validate and apply these 
datasets to new questions and new regions.

Qualifications: The successful candidate should have a PhD in remote 
sensing, ecology, natural resources, agriculture, or a related field, 
have an interest in pursuing research in food security or agriculture, 
and be proficient in R and/or python programming. Experience working 
with Google Earth Engine is strongly desired. Familiarity using basic 
machine learning techniques such as random forests and support vector 
machines, and/or crop simulation models is desired.
