Synopsis
SLR International Corporation is seeking a Staff Scientist to join our Air
Quality Modeling team within our Fort Collins, Colorado operations.
Successful candidates will have a strong, relevant academic or employment
background, a desire to grow both technically and professionally, and be
motivated to support dynamic and challenging projects. This full-time

Required Technical Skills and Experience
* Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, or
closely-related scientific or engineering field
* 0-2 years of relevant work experience
* Demonstrated analytical skills, including problem solving, attention
to detail, and desire to continuously learn new concepts and software
* Proficient with Microsoft Office, DOS, and some experience with
other scientific software packages or programming/scripting languages
* Possess valid driver's license
* Ability to travel by airplane and car, including overnight travel
* Ability to work independently and summarize and document work
performed
* Flexible attitude, with the ability to focus on, and meet, multiple
client and internal tasks and deadlines
* Self-starter with effective written/verbal communication and strong
organization skills
Preferred Technical Skills and Experience
* Knowledge of boundary layer meteorology and air pollution dispersion
* Experience with the AERMOD and CALPUFF dispersion models
* Experience with any other dispersion models, chemical transport
models, or meteorological models
* Experience with Linux, FORTRAN, Python (or similar scripting
software), GIS software, and AutoCAD
* Experience with the collection, reduction, validation, and reporting
of ambient air quality and meteorological data
* Experience performing emission calculations, regulatory compliance
reviews, and preparing permit applications
* Master's degree in the Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, or
closely-related scientific or engineering field is desirable
Responsibilities
* Conduct air dispersion modeling in support of air quality permit
applications or other regulatory drivers
* Run model pre-processors and construct model input files, execute
models, and analyze results
* Work with the project manager to diagnose model output and identify
potential solutions
* Prepare written modeling protocols and reports, including graphics
needed to present information in a logical and accurate manner
* Perform data screening tasks for meteorological and ambient air
quality monitoring programs
* Validate meteorological and ambient air quality data, and maintain
all documentation to support the data validation process
* Produce quarterly meteorological and ambient air quality data
reports for review by senior staff
* Review federal, state, and local modeling guidance or regulations,
as needed
* Support other air-quality related tasks such as emission inventory
development, and permitting and compliance, etc.
* Take ownership and responsibility for any task that is given,
specifically with respect to deadlines, budgets and deliverables
