The Environmental Studies Department at the University of Redlands invites
applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level.
Teaching interests must focus on energy and environment, broadly conceived
in the United States and abroad, with research interests that demonstrate a
specialization in alternative/renewable energy policy, climate implications,
politics, and/or planning. Teaching load is 6 courses per year, one of which
may be offered as an intensive seminar or travel course during the month of
May.

 

The University values applicants who have experience working with students
from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Applicants are asked
to identify their strengths and experiences in assisting diverse student
populations to accomplish curricular goals. The successful applicant will be
expected to support the College of Arts and Science?s general education
curriculum.

 

The University is located sixty miles east of downtown Los Angeles, in a
town of 70,000. The campus is surrounded by orange groves and sits at the
base of the San Bernardino Mountains, one hour from the coast, and 45
minutes from Palm Springs.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications: A doctoral degree or terminal degree in a
relevant environmental field is required. Multidisciplinary training in
environmental science, policy and management is preferred. Preferred
candidates will have interdisciplinary training in the biophysical and
environmental policy aspects of energy development, a strong commitment to
undergraduate teaching and mentorship, a promising record of scholarly
achievement and a research interest in environmental aspects of energy that
is applicable to questions of climate change, sustainability, and/or impacts
on diverse communities. Desirable qualifications for this position include:
research interests that demonstrate understanding of complex environmental
systems and their interaction with human social systems; ability to
contribute to our practical experience in environmental problem-solving; GIS
skills; and an ability to thrive in an undergraduate program, within a small
private liberal arts university, where excellence in teaching is highly
valued. An ideal candidate will enrich interdisciplinary offerings on campus
through course offerings and advising.
