Summary of Position:
The Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences at the University of North
Carolina Wilmington (http://www.uncw.edu/earsci) invites applications for a
tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Landscape Dynamics/Active
Tectonics to begin August 2018. We seek an individual who has expertise in
the interactions between landscape evolution, tectonics, and climate using
a quantitative field-based approach and state-of-the-art techniques.
Minimum Requirements:
A Ph.D. in geology, geoscience, or a related field is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
The successful candidate: 1) will be committed to exceptional teaching at
the introductory level (e.g., physical and historical geology, natural
disasters, environmental geology), including oversight of laboratory
sections, and will teach upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses
(e.g., structural geology, field course in geology, techniques in applied
geology, tectonics, tectonic geomorphology, advanced/applied GIS); 2)
support our B.S. and B.A. undergraduate degree programs in Geography,
Geology, Geoscience, and Oceanography, as well as our M.S. Geoscience
graduate program, by advising majors and by actively recruiting and
mentoring students; and 3) establish and maintain a vigorous research
program with significant field and quantitative components that involves
both undergraduate and graduate students, and complements and interfaces
with our emerging directions and strengths in crustal dynamics, tectonics
of orogenic systems, climate/paleoclimate studies, coastal and volcanic
processes/hazards, and water resources.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences offers the following degrees:
B.S. in geology and oceanography, M.S. and B.A. in geosciences, B.A. in
geography, and a Graduate Certificate in GIS. UNCW maintains a wide range
of research laboratories on the main campus and at the Center for Marine
Science.
