The Department of Geography and the Environment at the University of North
Texas (UNT) seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in geographic
information systems (GIS) starting Fall 2018. We seek candidates who have
interests that complement or extend our existing strengths in areas such as
data science, critical geography, earth surface processes, land use change,
conservation, urban geography, and medical geography. Candidates will be
expected to have a productive research program resulting in publications,
funding and student research, and teach undergraduate and graduate courses
in GIS (e.g., Introduction to GIS, Special Topics in GIS) as well as in
their primary field of study. A Ph.D. in geography or a closely related
field is required at the time of appointment.

The department offers BA/BS and M.S. degrees in Geography, and a
certificate in GIS.  In 2017, the department won the AAG’s inaugural
Master’s Program Excellence Award for its dynamic and productive
activities. We also have a Geospatial Information Science concentration in
the Information Science Ph.D. program, and advise Ph.D. students through
the Environmental Science Program and the Department of Philosophy Ph.D.
