POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Haystack Observatory, to play a significant role in the Geodesy Program and collaborate on and contribute to the research and technical development of geodetic methods and systems. Haystack Observatory has been a world leader in the development of radio-frequency space geodetic techniques for over four decades. Its research includes studies of the solid Earth, cryosphere, climate, atmosphere, and oceans. Haystack Observatory has a principal role in NASA's Space Geodesy Project, developing the next-generation Very Long Baseline Interferomtery (VLBI) systems for geodesy. Other ongoing projects at Haystack include space weather and ionospheric monitoring, ultra-high resolution imaging of super massive black holes, low frequency imaging of the Sun, Computer-Aided Discovery and development of novel instrumentation for astronomy and geoscience.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Ph.D. in geoscience, physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or related field; demonstrated ability to effectively communicate research results in the form of peer-reviewed research journals articles and oral presentations; outstanding scientific research ability; excellent communication and programming skills; and willingness to work with a team. Preferred areas of expertise include geodetic techniques and methods, algorithm development, computer simulations, and statistics. Consideration will be given to those who offer a strong grounding in and experience with linear algebra, matrix methods, linear model theory, inversion techniques, and the development of scientific computer code; and in the areas of modern space techniques for geodesy, especially those that emphasize a combination of geodetic techniques, realization of terrestrial reference frames, or atmospheric water vapor modeling. Job #14435

The appointment will initially be for one year, with possible extension to a second year, subject to performance and availability of funds.

Position will be based at Haystack Observatory in Westford, MA, but will collaborate closely with researchers at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) of Columbia University and will visit LDEO on occasion.
