Subject: Postdoc: Arctic and Temperate Watershed Biogeochemistry at
Michigan State University

Postdoctoral Research Opportunity
Arctic and Temperate Watershed Biogeochemistry=20
Michigan State University

We seek a postdoctoral associate to lead data analysis and modelling=20
efforts for ongoing watershed biogeochemistry and hydrology projects in t=
he=20
Watershed Science & Hydroecology Lab at Michigan State University (MS=
U).=20
The postdoc will lead efforts to analyze and model solute flux patterns=20=

across Arctic and Temperate watersheds using large extant data sets and n=
ew=20
high-frequency data from stream sensor systems. The overarching research=20=

goal is to quantify controls on dissolved organic matter and nutrient=20
production, processing, and transport through freshwater ecosystems, and =
to=20
assess how these controls are being altered by regional and global change=
s.=20
The postdoc will work with a rapidly growing multidisciplinary team=20
examining the influence of changes in climate and land use on water=20
resources and watershed nutrient and pathogen transport. MSU is a large a=
nd=20
vibrant community for water research, and this position is only one of=20=

several watershed science postdoctoral associate positions in our=20
department.
=20
The postdoc will be actively mentored to achieve their professional goals=
,=20
including individualized mentoring plans focused on technical skills=20
training, professional networking, establishing interdisciplinary=20
collaborations, mentoring students, and eventual job placement.=20
=09
The position requires a Ph.D. in ecosystem ecology, biogeochemistry,=20
hydrology, environmental engineering, or a related field by the start dat=
e=20
of employment. Preferred research skills and interests include demonstrat=
ed=20
knowledge of catchment biogeochemistry, mechanistic modeling, geospatial=20=

analysis, machine learning, statistical modeling, and time series analysi=
s.=20
Strong computer programming skills (especially MATLAB, Python, and/or R)=20=

are highly desirable. A record of publications and knowledge of=20
biogeochemistry and catchment science is desired. We will begin reviewing=
=20
applications on 15 June 2017, and the search will remain open until a=20
suitable candidate is found. Start date is flexible in 2017, but preferab=
ly=20
in Summer/Fall 2017. For more information on the research group, please=20=

visit www.msu.edu/~jpz. Direct questions about the position to Dr. Jay=20=

Zarnetske (jpz at msu.edu). To apply, please send letter of application=20
detailing research interest and experiences, curriculum vitae, and names =
of=20
3 references (with telephone numbers and email addresses) to Dr. Jay=20
Zarnetske (jpz at msu.edu) and cc all correspondences to geosci at msu.edu.=20
