Earth Sciences, Syracuse University
Syracuse University’s Dept. of Earth Sciences seeks applicants for a postdoctoral research and teaching associate position, with a disciplinary focus in hydrogeology. Research will involve the integration of field work and computational modeling to understand hydrologic and hydrogeologic systems. The position will be supervised by Prof. Laura Lautz. The research associate will have the opportunity to work in collaboration with Prof. Lautz and colleagues on ongoing and emerging research projects, including: hydrogeologic controls on methane occurrence in shallow groundwater; stream-groundwater interactions and solute fate and transport in urban and restored streams; and/or, remote sensing of environmental conditions using unmanned aerial systems. The research associate will also teach two courses per year, one in Hydrogeology during the Fall semester and the other an introductory course in Water & the Environment in the Spring. We are seeking a recent PhD recipient interested in pursuing their research, while also gaining mentored experience as a teacher and member of the Earth Sciences department.
Ideal candidates will have a strong background in hydrogeology/hydrology, statistics, and numerical methods; be comfortable working independently on challenging problems; and, seek opportunities to engage undergraduate and graduate students in research and teaching. Applicants must hold a PhD in Earth Sciences or a related field, with a specialization in physical hydrology or hydrogeology, at the time of appointment. The initial 12-month full-time appointment is renewable for up to 3 years, contingent on satisfactory progress in research and instruction. The preferred start date is August 1st, 2017.
Interested candidates should email a cover letter, full CV, and contact information for 3 references to Laura Lautz (lklautz at syr.edu).
