The Department of Environmental Science at Allegheny College invites 
applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor position beginning August 
2017. Initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility to 
extend for two additional years or convert to tenure-track. We seek an 
individual with interdisciplinary teaching and research interests in 
environmental studies and a strong commitment to undergraduate 
education. We are particularly interested in candidates with teaching 
and research expertise in interdisciplinary approaches to environmental 
problem solving and collaborative research opportunities, and to assist 
with a new departmental initiative to train students for the UN 
Sustainable Development Goals 2030. A Ph.D. and previous teaching 
experience is strongly preferred. Teaching load is equivalent to 6 
courses per year and will include upper-level courses in the candidate’s 
area of expertise and those in the college-wide freshman-sophomore 
curriculum. Other courses might include those focused on environmental 
justice, ecological economics, environmental policy, climate science and 
change, subjects in the environmental humanities, or core courses in the 
department’s curriculum.
