A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the research group of Prof.
Kerri Pratt (http://prattlab.blogspot.com;
http://prattlab.chem.lsa.umich.edu/) in the Department of Chemistry at the
University of Michigan. The Pratt Lab uses chemical ionization mass
spectrometry, aerosol time-of-flight mass spectrometry, ion chromatography,
and numerical modeling to study atmospheric chemistry, with a focus on
aerosols, halogen chemistry, and snowpack chemistry in the Polar Regions.

The open position is associated with a recent National Science Foundation
grant and a Sloan Research Fellowship awarded to Prof. Pratt. The open
position will include field deployments, likely in Michigan and aboard an
icebreaker cruise to Antarctica. The position may also include assisting in
running a snow chemistry research-focused general chemistry laboratory
course, as part of an educational grant funded by the Howard Hughes Medical
Institute. Postdoc responsibilities will include participating in and
leading field deployments of custom instrumentation, analyzing and
interpreting field measurement data, collaborating with other science
teams, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, and preparing
manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication.

Qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD (by appointment start date) in
Chemistry, or a related science or engineering field with a focus on
Atmospheric Chemistry. Fieldwork experience deploying home-built/customized
instrumentation, single-particle mass spectrometers, and/or Aerodyne mass
spectrometers is required. Strong written and oral communication skills and
the ability to work as part of a team are necessary. Candidates must have
experience analyzing atmospheric trace gas and/or aerosol field data with
demonstrated knowledge of mass spectrometry. Experience using MATLAB, Igor,
and/or LabVIEW is preferred.

Appointment: The targeted start date for this position is between September
2017 and January 2018. The initial appointment is for one year, with
renewal based on funding and performance.

Please email a CV, cover letter (describing your research experience,
interests, career goals, and fit for the position), and contact information
for 3 references to Prof. Kerri Pratt, email: prattka at umich.edu.
