The National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado, U.S.A., is looking for interns in
NWP Modeling for Grid Integration Datasets
and
Meteorological & Power Validation for Grid Integration Studies
Wind integration studies require detailed wind power data at many locations in order to perform simulations of how the power system will operate under high-penetration scenarios. Without accurate predictions of wind power time series, wind energy cannot be integrated into the existing power grid, and without such integration the cost of energy to the consumer increases. Grid integration data sets produced by NREL need to be validated with data from actual power plants for the grid integration data sets to be of benefit and high value; additionally, the underlying meteorological data sets used to create power data sets need to be validated with meteorological measurements.
Interns will have the opportunity to join an exciting wind integration project and an interdisciplinary team to develop and validate wind integration data with observations of power and meteorological variables.
