MS/PhD Studentships in the Department of Geography at the University of Delaware
We invite applications for two graduate assistantships (MS in Geography or PhD in Climatology) in the Department of Geography at the University
of Delaware beginning in Fall 2017. These assistantships are funded by a DOE grant to evaluate the ability of different regional climate modeling
techniques to represent key features of the hydrological system over the continental US. This project includes an array of modern regional climate modeling techniques, including dynamical, statistical, and
hybrid downscaling and variable-resolution global modeling. Students have the potential to work on a variety of topics, including the development of metrics to evaluate model performance in simulating sea
breeze circulations, the North American monsoon, and aridity; sources of uncertainty in regional climate models; and sensitivity experiments to quantify the influence that irrigation has on regional hydroclimate. As
part of the project, students will attend national conferences and
workshops.
Qualifications: Suitable backgrounds for applicants include a Bachelors or Masters degree in Geography, Atmospheric Sciences, Oceanography, Physics, or related fields. Priority will be given to students with previous experience in climate modeling (including WRF and CESM).
The Department of Geography
<http://www.ceoe.udel.edu/schools-departments/department-of-geography>
at the University of Delaware has a strong program in climate, with
seven faculty members who specialize in various aspects of meteorology and climatology. Interested students can apply online at

until filled, but we encourage submission by March 1, 2017 for full
consideration. Potential applicants may contact Dr. Sara Rauscher
