Postdoctoral Researcher Position Open at UNC for Modeling PM2.5 from the Multiphase Chemistry of Biogenic VOC-derived Oxidation Products
The Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering (ESE) is one of the eight academic departments located in the Gillings School of Global Public Health. The department's primary focus is on research and graduate education at the interface of the environment and human health, with an increasing emphasis on undergraduate education.
ESE is seeking an energetic, motivated, postdoctoral researcher for model development projects aimed at improving predictions from regional and global scale air quality modeling systems. Research activities will be focused on the formation of fine particulate matter via oxidation of biogenic volatile organic compounds and subsequent acid-catalyzed multi-phase chemistry. The proposed work will involve collaborations with Dr. Jason Surratt utilizing new experimental kinetic data generated from his chamber experiments to constrain current AQM parameters or develop new model algorithms. AQM development work will include collaborations with US Environmental Protection Agency and National Center for Atmospheric Research scientists.
