The University of Bristol is looking to appoint an outstanding candidate as
Head of School of Earth Sciences who can provide inspirational leadership
and strategic management within the School.
This is a key academic leadership position within the University of
Bristol, supporting the attainment of the University’s vision and overall
objectives, and participating in the collective formulation and delivery of
the University’s academic strategy. We are looking for a proven track
record of excellent partnership working both internally and externally as
well as academic excellence within chosen field with the ability to engage,
lead and influence across wide range of inter-faculty disciplines. The
Head of School will also have a deep commitment to equality, diversity and
inclusion.
The School is a leading international centre for the Earth Sciences, and is
consistently one of the highest ranked Earth Science groups in the UK. It
boasts research strengths across palaeobiology, petrology, geophysics,
geochemistry and volcanology, which underpin a diverse teaching programme
at undergraduate and masters levels. Sustained funding successes and links
to industry have led to the development of numerous state-of-the-art
laboratories and equipment facilities, as well as attracting high calibre
postgraduate students and postdoctoral scholars. The School prides itself
on maintaining a collegial atmosphere that provides support to all its
members.
With a population of over 400,000, Bristol is the largest city in the South
West and the region’s leading centre for business, culture and education.
