Subject: Postdoctoral Research Associate Watershed Hydrologic Modeling
Postdoctoral Research Associate =96 Watershed Hydrologic Modeling
The Department of Geography at Indiana University =96 Bloomington is=20
seeking applicants for a postdoctoral position in watershed modeling in=20=
the lab of Dr. Darren Ficklin. The overall goal of the National Science=20=
Foundation funded project is to develop techniques that integrate=20
citizen science-derived streamflow and stream temperature data with a=20
Boyne River hydrologic model. Specifically, this research is designed to=20=
fully integrate citizen participation in the development of a real-time=20=
stream discharge, temperature, and aquatic species habitat modeling=20
framework. Through the use of citizen-based observations of streamflow=20=
and stream temperature, this approach will demonstrate how citizen-
derived observations can contribute to forecasts of stream discharge,=20
stream temperature, and identification of freshwater fish habitat.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a GIS-based Soil &am=
p;=20
Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) hydrologic model on high-performance=20
parallel computing systems. In addition to having experience with SWAT,=20=
applicants should have experience with Linux and programming languages=20=
such as R, Matlab, or Python and also be able to measure streamflow=20
discharge in the field. The postdoc will also be encouraged to develop=20=
independent lines of research and will have the opportunity to=20
collaborate with ecologists, hydrologists, and sustainability=20
specialists at Indiana University, Saint Louis University, and the=20
University at Buffalo. Additional information can be requested by=20
emailing Dr. Darren Ficklin at dficklin at indiana.edu.
The position is available for 1.5 years. The earliest start date is=20
November 15, 2017; however, a later start date is negotiable (but no=20
later than January 1, 2018). All applications must be made online and=20
include a cover letter with a statement of research experience and=20
interests, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three=20
references at:
https://indiana.peopleadmin.com/postings/4453
In addition, please send versions of these files to Dr. Darren Ficklin=20=
at dficklin at indiana.edu with the words =93Watershed modeling position=94 =
in=20
the subject line of the email. Review of applications will begin=20
immediately and will continue until the position is filled. In order to=20=
be assured of full consideration, applicants should submit all=20
application materials by October 1, 2017.
The College of Arts and Sciences is committed to building and supporting=20=
a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community of students and scholars.=20=
Indiana University is an equal employment and affirmative action=20
employer and a provider of ADA services. All qualified applicants will=20=
receive consideration for employment without regard to age, ethnicity,=20=
color, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation or identity, national=20
origin, disability status or protected veteran status.
