Ph.D. or M.S. Opportunity at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi
The Reese Geomicrobiology Lab at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is seeking a M.S. or Ph.D. student in molecular ecology and biogeochemistry to study interactions between methanogenesis and methanotrophy in a mangrove wetland along the Texas coast. This recently funded project will combine field observations, laboratory manipulations, and molecular analysis.
We have a unique opportunity along the Texas coast to study the effects of mangrove expansion on carbon cycling in a protected wetland. These results will be placed in the context of the biota including benthic ecology and faunal distribution.
Qualifications
Potential students should be highly self-motivated and have a strong interest in molecular ecology, biogeochemistry, and bioinformatics. The position will be supported by a recently funded grant, but teaching assistantships are available. The student will have the option to matriculate through the Marine Biology program (http://sci.tamucc.edu/LSCI/MARB/) or the Coastal & Marine System Science program (http://sci.tamucc.edu/PENS/CMSS/). Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills and an ability to work both independently and collaboratively with groups from diverse backgrounds.
Interested candidates should contact Dr. Brandi Kiel Reese (brandi.reese at tamucc.edu<mailto:brandi.reese at tamucc.edu>) and provide a short statement of interest, CV, unofficial transcript, and unofficial GRE scores if available.
Thanks,
Brandi Kiel Reese, Ph.D.
