The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB) at the University
of Tennessee will be hiring a tenure track faculty member at the Assistant
Professor level in the field of Ecosystem Ecology. *We seek applicants
whose research emphasizes the linkages between ecosystem ecology, microbial
ecology and global change, and who would complement existing strengths in
biodiversity, global change, and evolutionary ecology in EEB.* For example,
possible areas of emphasis could include microbial community/microbiome
interactions that mediate large-scale nutrient pools and fluxes, modern
genetic and genomic techniques to address above- and belowground
interactions or factors influencing ecosystem function. The successful
candidate will build an interdisciplinary research program focused on
important questions affecting terrestrial ecosystems in a changing world.

We welcome applicants who can use the wealth of nearby field resources
(Great Smoky Mountains National Park, national forests, and natural areas),
our research and teaching field station in Gatlinburg TN, new greenhouse
and sequencing facilities, biodiversity collections, and who could
collaborate with scientists at the National Institute for Mathematical and
Biological Synthesis (NIMBioS) and nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

We are committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse faculty and invite
candidates who will strengthen the diversity of our department. We are also
committed to excellence in teaching, particularly using inquiry-based
pedagogies or experiential learning. Expectations for a successful
candidate include an exceptional record of scientific accomplishment, with
the ability to develop a productive, externally-funded research program,
excellent communication skills, and evidence of effective teaching
strategies.

Interested applicants should send a cover letter, curriculum vitae,
two-page statement of research accomplishment and plans, two-page
description of teaching experiences and interests, and the names and
contact information of at least three individuals who could write letters
of reference to ecosystemecol at utk.edu. *Application review will begin Oct.
10, 2016, with a position start date of August 2017.*
