Within the newly funded *ERC Starting Grant project C2Phase* (Closure of
the Cloud Phase), the Institute for Meteorology and Climate Research at
Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany invites applications for
three open positions in the field of cloud physics:
(1) *5 year position for a postdoctoral researcher/senior scientist*
with significant previous experience in the field of remote sensing of
cloud properties and analysis of large data. The task is to perform
cluster analysis and case studies of satellite observations of cloud
phase (liquid or ice) and convective cloud tracking and analysis. The
person filling this position will be closely collaborating with DWD and
KNMI. To build up this expertise in the group, further prolongation of
the position beyond the C2Phase project period will be offered subject
to satisfactory performance.
(2) *3 year position for a doctoral researcher* with background in
atmospheric science, physics, computer sciences, mathematics or related
fields. The topic of this PhD thesis will be cloud regime clustering of
weather and climate model data with an emphasis on the analysis of cloud
glaciation.
(3) *3 year position for a doctoral researcher* with background in
atmospheric science or a related field, ideally with previous experience
in numerical modelling. The topic of this PhD thesis will be
high-resolution model sensitivity studies of the thermodynamic cloud
phase and its susceptibility to various parameters for selected cloud
types.
Please send applications for these position to Prof. Dr. Corinna Hoose
(corinna.hoose at kit.edu), including a letter of motivation, CV, copies of
the relevant certificates, preferred starting date, and names of at
minimum two referees.
We are looking for highly motivated, independent candidates. We offer a
dynamic work environment at one of Germany's foremost research
institutions for natural science and technology (read more at
http://www.kit.edu) with attractive programs for young researchers
(http://www.khys.kit.edu) and payment according to TV-L E 13 (100% for
the postdoctoral position, 75% for the doctoral researcher positions).
All positions are available from 1st April 2017 or as soon as possible
thereafter.
Review of applications for all positions will start on **1st *December
2016* and will continue until the positions are filled.
For candidates for positions (2) and (3) from outside Germany, there is
the possibility to apply for an Aspirant Grant
(https://www.khys.kit.edu/aspirant_grant.php) to fund a 1-month stay at
KIT prior to the decision for the doctoral researcher position. If you
are interested in this opportunity, please submit your application to
Prof. Dr. Corinna Hoose (corinna.hoose at kit.edu) already by **13th
*November 2016* and fill out the relevant parts of the Aspirant Grant
form as well
(http://www.khys.kit.edu/downloads/Aspirant%20Grant_application%20form_2017.doc).
I'm happy to answer any questions related to these openings.
Best regards,
Corinna Hoose
