I am looking for a Ph.D. student to be a part of a revolutionary new approach to graduate education in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Iowa: the Sustainable Water Development (SWD) Graduate Program. In our program, you'll become a highly trained water professional ready to meet the resource challenges of communities most in need as a professional engineer, researcher, or educator. This is not a "one-size-fits-all" graduate program. You can tailor the curriculum to fit your unique interests and career goals - everything from politics to public health, chemistry to microbiology, and informatics to entrepreneurship and beyond - all while earning a generous student stipend. Prestigious NRT Fellowships are available for the most meritorious domestic students.
Our Ph.D. students earn a degree in four years, and all of SWD students do innovative research at the food, energy and water nexus, focusing on the impacts of climate change, resource recovery from waste, technologies for sustainable and healthy communities, and more. Community service and professional development, including immersive internships with diverse project partners, will complement your transformative research. The SWD program will place you on a career path that could lead you far beyond academia.
My research group is looking for Ph.D. students interested in the broad topics of hydrology and hydroclimatology. Of particular interest is the examination of extreme hydrometeorological events (e.g., heavy precipitation, flooding), their attribution, their predictability and projected changes, and their economic impacts.
The Sustainable Water Development Graduate Program is a one-of-a-kind opportunity in the vibrant, diverse, and friendly setting of Iowa City. I encourage you to take the next step toward your career as a water professional and apply now!

You can learn more by visiting our website, which contains a link to our application page: waterhawks.uiowa.edu<http://waterhawks.uiowa.edu/>. We are accepting applications through January 15, 2017, and there is no application fee for domestic applicants.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me (gabriele-villarini at uiowa.edu<mailto:gabriele-villarini at uiowa.edu>).
Sincerely
