Drexel University (Philadelphia, PA) seeks an adjunct faculty to teach
Advanced Field Methods in Earth Science in SE Pennsylvania and environs,
during the upcoming Fall quarter, as part of its Geoscience curriculum.
The course objectives are for students to learn rock description and
recognition methods, best practices in field geology, and training with
essential geological field tools (e.g., Brunton compass, GPS, etc.).
Drexel is a private, urban, comprehensive research university spread
across three campuses in Philadelphia. Drexel is best known for its
innovative co-op educational program, requiring participating students
to gain 18 months of full-time working experience before graduation.
Currently, more than 26,000 students attend the university in one of
more than 100 undergraduate or graduate programs.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Advances Field Methods in Earth Science (GEO 301):
This skills course focuses on fundamental and commonly used geoscience
field techniques. Students will learn surface and subsurface mapping,
coring techniques and core analysis, remote sensing techniques, and
sampling techniques.
COURSE SCHEDULE:
This is a 2 credit course that includes 5 Saturdays of outdoors field
work in southeast Pennsylvania or neighboring areas. Drexel's academic
calendar is on a quarter system, and the Fall 2016 quarter runs for 10
weeks between September 19 and December 3, 2016.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters degree from an accredited institution of higher learning, in
Earth Science, Geology, or related field, is required
Professional or academic experience in geological field methods is preferred
Higher Education teaching experience preferred
A terminal degree from an accredited institution of higher learning
(i.e., PhD, etc.) is preferred
