Postdoctoral Research Fellowship or Researcher position in permafrost
and Earth system modeling

A 2-year postdoctoral researcher position in land surface modeling is
available at Uni Research Climate in Bergen, Norway, with the
possibility of being extended. More experienced candidates will be
considered for a researcher position. The focus will be to improve our
understandings on permafrost carbon climate feedbacks using the coupled
framework of the state-of-the-art Norwegian Earth System Model (NorESM).
Main duties include implementing and improving permafrost related
processes in the land model for a more realistic representation of
permafrost in global as well as regional climate models. The candidate
will be responsible for the Community Land Model (CLM) simulations in
the framework of NorESM, CLM development and permafrost representation
in close interaction with field scientists, WRF modelers, and global
Earth system modelers. The model development will focus on subgrid
representation for other permafrost processes in the CLM, particularly
on the landscape development in areas with ice-rich ground, including
thermokarst formation and ground subsidence to ultimately understand the
effects of thawing permafrost on future climate. In addition to
permafrost model development, the candidate will contribute to the
upcoming Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6)
activities with the NorESM and its evaluation.
