Frostburg State University, Department of Geography, seeks applications
for a full-time, tenure-track Instructor/Assistant Professor of
Geography position to begin Fall 2016. The successful candidate will
assume a leadership role in applied environmental science instruction.
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes
University System of Maryland benefits package.
The Department of Geography administers undergraduate degree programs in
Geography, Earth Science, Environmental Analysis and Planning, and Urban
and Regional Planning. Resources include two computer-based teaching
labs, environmental science lab, soils analytical lab,
geomorphology/paleo teaching lab, sediment and rock prep lab, physical
geography teaching lab, and a map library. The Department has an
extensive collection of field equipment including GPS receivers, data
collectors, and total stations. The new Gira Center for Communications
and Information Technology provides teaching and research opportunities.

Responsibilities: Commitment to undergraduate teaching in applied
environmental science. Teach new and/or existing courses in area of
expertise including Hydrology, Environmental Planning, and Environmental
Law. Be a major contributor to the Environmental Analysis and Planning
major. Offer an introductory level general education course in Physical
Geography. Complement existing faculty expertise in Biogeography,
Climate Science, Geomorphology, and Soils. A creative approach to
classroom instruction including experiential learning and online
instruction is important. Duties will include student advising,
professional development activities, and service to the Department,
College, and Community.
Minimum Qualifications: ABD in Environmental Science, Environmental
Engineering, Hydrology, Geography and Planning, or closely related field
may be considered for appointment at the rank of Instructor.
Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and research.
Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Environmental
Engineering, Hydrology, Geography and Planning, or closely related field
preferred and required for appointment at the rank of Assistant
Professor. Demonstrated excellence in teaching courses related to
applied environmental science at the university level. Experience with
grants and sponsored project administration.
