*Job Summary*
*Research in the area of weather and climate, with a focus on
predicting the variability of wind and solar resources over a wide range
of temporal and spatial scales. Climate or weather modeling and data
analysis. Impact of climate variability on renewable energy resources
and related areas. Works independently to develop and implement new
models and tolls, as well as conduct case studies on existing models and
tools. **Work collaboratively with other groups and experts to meet
customers’ needs. **Work with management and senior staff to develop
funding sources. Publish results in technical journals/conference
proceedings. Presents work at conferences, symposia, and related.*

*Required Education, Experience, and Skills*
Relevant PhD or equivalent relevant education/experience.
Or, relevant Master's Degree and 3 or more years of experience or
equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Bachelor's Degree
and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant
education/experience. Demonstrates complete understanding and wide
application of scientific technical procedures, principles, theories and
concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines.
Demonstrates leadership in one or more areas of team, task or project
lead responsibilities. Demonstrated experience in management of
projects. Very good technical writing, interpersonal and communication
skills.

*Preferred Qualifications*
Apply existing tools to support the creation and analysis of weather and
climate data for resource, generation, and grid integration studies.
Develop and apply new tools to support new research projects and
customer requirements. Propose and investigate ways to account for
different weather conditions as a result of climate change and apply
these to the resource and generation assessment process. Provide
leadership within NREL and within the international solar energy
communities in the development, application, and interpretation of
weather data. Develop relationships with experts and stakeholders in
other U.S. Government departments and Federal Agencies, and with others
internationally. Contribute to project proposals and manage
contributions and effort in accordance with project plans. Publish
results in technical reports, journals, and at conferences.
