*Stable Isotope Lab Manager*

The Department of Earth Science at Rice University seeks a full-time, 
hard money lab manager for our new stable isotope lab under the 
direction of Profs. Laurence Yeung and Cin-Ty Lee.

The lab currently houses three mass spectrometers, specifically:

  * Thermo Scientific Delta V Plus isotope ratio mass spectrometer for
    conventional stable isotope analysis (CHONS), with dual inlet,
    GasBench II interface, and Elemental Analyzer (Thermo Flash HT Plus)
  * Two high-resolution Nu Instruments Perspective isotope ratio mass
    spectrometers for clumped isotope analysis (O_2 and CO_2
    /carbonates), with house-built sample preparation lines

Additional equipment will be added in the coming years as the laboratory 
expands its capabilities.

_Primary responsibilities include_: Maintaining mass spectrometers and 
vacuum equipment; troubleshooting and repair of analytical methodologies 
and instruments; data reduction and quality control; development and 
testing of new laboratory methodologies; training of students and 
postdocs; upkeep and enforcement of laboratory safety standards and 
protocols; management of laboratory supplies, orders, and invoicing.

_Opportunities available include_: Research proposal development (as 
Co-PI) in collaboration with faculty; individual and collaborative 
research; development of and participation in laboratory courses as 
instructor; development and refinement of analytical capabilities; 
professional development through short-course and conference attendance.

_Minimum qualifications_: M.S. in physics, chemistry, or a geoscience 
field with a minimum 1 year of hands-on experience maintaining mass 
spectrometers; computer skills, including some programming experience 
(e.g., Isodat, Labview, etc.); good oral and written communication skills.

_Preferred qualifications_: Ph.D. in an experimental physics, chemistry, 
or geoscience field with several years of experience maintaining, 
troubleshooting, and repairing mass spectrometers; experience building 
custom lab equipment and custom electronics; experience with lab and 
recharge-center management. Interest in geoscience topics and approaches.
