> Urban Monarch Technicians for Summer 2016
>> The Field Museum is partnered with the US Fish and Wildlife Service to develop a conservation design for the monarch butterfly in urban areas. The project, called “A Monarch’s View of the City”, integrates ecological and social information from across the urban landscape to help identify and guide where the best places are to put monarch habitat, and what the best ways are to engage different stakeholder groups who might be interested in putting habitat on the ground.
>>
>> The Field Museum will be hiring three full-time paid summer positions to help contribute data and information to this exciting project. The duration is for 12-weeks (approximately May 16 to Aug 8, 2016; but start date is somewhat flexible).
>>
>> The fist position is an Ecological Technician. This person will be trained by Museum staff in ecological sampling methodology and monarch biological monitoring protocol in order to collect information at urban sites on a variety of habitat characteristics, including but not limited to: milkweed density, floristic diversity and total habitat acreage.
>>
>> Qualifications and experience:
>> Chicago Region plant identification skills
>> Experience with ecological sampling and/or invertebrate sampling
>> Understanding of monarch biology

>> The second position is a Social Science Technician. This person will assist with the qualitative component of the project, including data entry, coding and maintenance of social survey responses and literature review. They will also be trained to conduct semi-structured interviews, as well as interview follow up.
