The University of Oregon Environmental Studies Program is seeking an
exceptional scholar in environmental science with a strong research program
and a commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and
graduate level for a full time (1.0 FTE) position as a tenure-track
assistant professor with a 9 month appointment. Desired start date: Fall
2016.

Research and teaching must be interdisciplinary and connect to applied
environmental problems. We are especially interested in scientists whose
research addresses freshwater aquatic or riparian ecosystems, soil
ecosystems and biogeochemistry, or restoration ecology, although we will
consider all candidates with strong research records in any area of
environmental science. Applicants must show an enthusiastic desire to be
involved in a program that encompasses humanities, social science, natural
science, and several professional programs. Candidates must demonstrate
commitment to diversity and inclusiveness, including the ability to
interact constructively with colleagues and students from diverse
backgrounds. The minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in an appropriate
field by the time of the start date and a strong research record in
environmental science.

The position will be split between the Environmental Studies Program (0.6
of the FTE), which will be the tenure home, and an appropriate academic
department (0.4 of the FTE) with potential ones including, but not limited
to, Biology, Geography, and Geological Sciences. Duties will include:

1) developing an academically oriented, externally funded research program;
2) teaching undergraduate interdisciplinary courses in the Environmental
Studies Program and advanced courses in areas of specialization, 3)
supervising masters and doctoral students, and 4) performing service
primarily within the Environmental Studies Program.

Candidates should submit a letter of application, statements of research
interests and teaching philosophy, a sample research paper, a current vita,
and names of at least three references via Academic Jobs Online at:
