Job Summary
Posting Description
A Research Associate is needed at the Department of Atmospheric and
Oceanic Sciences, at the University of Colorado, to conduct innovative
research in the area of understanding Indian Ocean decadal climate
variability. The overall goal is to investigate the causes for Indian
Ocean decadalSSTvariability and its associated atmospheric variability
in the coupled climate system, with particular focus on exploring the
role of Indian Ocean internal processes (versus external forcing) in
generating the variability. The approach is to combine observational
analysis using advanced statistic techniques (e.g., linear inverse
modeling) with modeling experiments using coupled global climate models
(e.g., NCAR’s Community Earth System Model). The successful applicant
will work with the Principal Investigator (Weiqing Han) in collaboration
with scientists atNOAA(Matt Newman, CoI; Mike Alexander, collaborator)
andNCAR(Jerry Meehl and Aixue Hu, collaborators). Applications should
include Curriculum Vitae with a publication list, 3 names of references,
and a cover letter that describes previous and current research
activities and qualifications for the Research Associate (“postdoctoral
researcher”) advertised at the University of Colorado.
At the time of appointment, the successful candidate should have a Ph.D.
degree in ocean, atmospheric, climate sciences, or a related field.
Statistical data analysis skills are required and modeling experience –
particularly for running coupled climate models – is preferred. Initial
appointment is for two years with possible renewal for another year,
contingent upon performance and availability of funds. Inquiries may be
directed to Weiqing Han (whan at colorado.edu). Applications will continue
to be accepted until the position is filled. The position may start in
the fall of 2015 or on a mutually agreeable date.
