15320 - Assistant Director, Center for Earth & Environmental Sciences (CEES)

The purpose of this job is to assist the director in overseeing the Center’s (http://cees.iupui.edu) outreach efforts, operations and accounts, coordinate fund raising development in conjunction with university and IU Foundation development staff, coordinate student experiential learning efforts, and act as a liaison between the Center and School of Science operations and programs.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to, including direct responsibility for delivery of the environmental service learning program (http://cees.iupui.edu/education/environmental-service-learning-undergrad) and program oversight the Discovering the Science of the Environment (cees.iupui.edu/education/education-overview<http://cees.iupui.edu/education/education-overview>), as well as facilitate external communications to include community partnership development for education and research, newsletters, and events. This position provides management level support related to planning, organizing and overseeing the financial and general operational activities of the Center in conjunction with the Center Director. The Assistant Director is further responsible for grant proposal research and writing by developing and implementing funded projects and proposal reports in order to help further the Center, and through extension, the department’s mission. The Assistant Director is also responsible for the selection, hiring, and oversight of general CEES student interns and the allocation of student scholarship funds with oversight of the director; decisions with respect to educational staff are made in consultation with the Education Outreach coordinator, when that position is occupied.
To be successful candidates should be interested in working with students ranging from elementary through college level, have strong organizational skills, and show both creativity and flexibility. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated interest in the environment either through education, employment history or community service.



Required: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related environmental area (e.g. earth sciences, environmental science, ecology, biology, physical geography, agriculture science), plus 2 years of related experience or a Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution plus 1 year of related experience. Experience must include some development related to environmental education programming (e.g. proposal preparation on any subject and/or program design and implementation). Must have a valid Driver’s license and the willingness to learn to pull a trailer behind a pick-up truck.  Candidates must pass a background check for programs working with minors.

Preferred: Some experience teaching sciences at the junior high level or higher as well as experience with ecological restoration and natural areas.
The position is classified internally as a Profession Staff position (PA) 3PR; it does not rely on grants for funding.
