Salary Range: Salary dependent on skills and experience
Nature Publishing Group Assistant, Associate or Senior Editor (Climate
science)
Nature Publishing Group (NPG) is a division of Macmillan Publishers Ltd,
dedicated to serving the academic, professional scientific and medical
communities.
Nature Communications is an innovative multidisciplinary scientific journal
that launched in April 2010 and is now fully open access. The journal
publishes high-quality research from the breadth of the natural sciences,
and has already developed a strong track record in these areas.
We now have an exciting opportunity for an editor to join our team, in
either London, Shanghai, or New York. The ideal candidate will have a PhD
(or equivalent), and preferably postdoctoral experience, in climate science
or a related area. This could include, but is not limited to, a background
in climate system dynamics, oceanography, or atmospheric science. Editorial
experience would be beneficial, but is not required.
Reporting to a Team Manager (Physical Sciences), the successful candidates
will play an important role in determining the representation of their
field in the journal, and will work closely with the other editors on all
aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection. This role
will also entail significant liaison with the scientific community, the
Research Journal Chief Editors (UK and US) and the Editorial Advisory Panel.
This is a demanding and intellectually stimulating position. Broad
scientific knowledge and training, excellent literary skills and a keen
interest in the practice and communication of science are a prerequisite.
The successful candidates must therefore have excellent communication and
interpersonal skills. The salary and benefits will be competitive,
reflecting the critical importance and responsibilities of this role.
This role is located in either our London, Shanghai or New York office. All
applicants must be able to demonstrate the right to live and work in the
respective country to be considered for the position.
Applicants should include a CV, a covering letter explaining their interest
in the post and their preferred office of employment, and a concise
discussion of recent scientific developments that you have found
particularly exciting (stating why).
Closing date: 21st October 2015
