The Department of Geography at The Ohio State University Columbus, Ohio
is seeking applications for an anticipated tenure-track position in
meteorology/climatology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level,
beginning autumn 2016. We seek a scholar with the demonstrated ability
to sustain a strong, externally funded research program, advise students
and teach courses in synoptic meteorology, weather forecasting, and
related themes in support of our atmosphericsciences program
(BS-MS-PhD). This position is partially/m/ funded by Ohio State's
Discovery Themes Initiative, a significant faculty hiring investment in
key thematic areas in which the university can build on its culture of
academic collaboration to make a global impact

This position requires a collaborative researcher capable of developing
a research program based on the innovative use of the ever-expanding
observational and model-derived weather and climate data sets. There is
a strong expectation that the scholar will engage in quantitative
research and collaborate broadly across disciplines, departments and
colleges. Successful applicants must provide evidence - or potential, in
case of junior scholars - of a competitive record of publication and the
ability to conduct and fund an active research program involving one or
more of the following: weather forecasting, extreme weather and climate,
climate system modeling, model output downscaling, multiplatform
satellite observation synthesis, and data mining of climate and/or
weather information. Other desirable research and teaching specialties
might include ecological modeling; climate change adaptation or
response; modeling nutrient and/or biogeochemical cycles; and remote
sensing of land surfaces at regional to global scales.
*Qualifications:*

A Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences, meteorology, physical geography or a
closely related field is required. Appointment is contingent on the
university’s verification of credentials and other information required
by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a
criminal background check.
