Job Description

The Joint Global Change Research Institute (JGCRI), of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) located in College Park, MD, seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct research on reduced complexity Earth system and climate models, as well as to develop higher temporal and spatial resolution projections obtained from such models for integrated analyses of human-Earth systems interactions. The successful candidate will work in a cross-disciplinary environment with a combination of Earth system and reduced complexity climate models, and their use with and in the Global Change Assessment Model (GCAM). The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research in close collaboration with JGCRI/PNNL scientists and its collaborators, publish scholarly papers in open literature, and participate in national and international research efforts. The associate will play a central role in several cutting edge interdisciplinary research projects at JGCRI.

JGCRI is comprised of an interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and economists dedicated to understanding global climate change and its impacts on the human and natural Earth systems. A major research focus at JGCRI is the continuing development and application of an integrated assessment computer-modeling framework that combines models of the interactive human and Earth systems, including energy and the economy, land-use, agriculture, water, climate, air-chemistry, and terrestrial ecosystems.

JGCRI researchers work with scientists and decision-makers in US Federal agencies, State and local governments, industry, foundations, and universities, and publish their findings in leading scientific journals. JGCRI researchers are among leaders in the international and national climate and global change research through prominent roles in science-based assessments of energy, water, agriculture, and economic systems and the interactions among them. Located in College Park, Maryland, JGCRI is a partnership between the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory of the US Department of Energy and the University of Maryland at College Park. The work environment at JGCRI is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary, with a focus on potential solutions to the world's most pressing challenges associated with energy, water, environment, and economy.
