JOB SUMMARY:

This position is located in the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric
Research of the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration.

* Performs analyses of trace gases in the atmosphere, specializing in
volatile organic compounds
* Conducts scientific interpretation of trace gas measurements
* Communicates research with publications and presentations (national
and international)
* Develops/uses state-of-the-art instruments

*Applicants must meet the Basic Requirement by one of the
following: (transcript required)*
A. Have a degree in physics; or a related degree that included at least
24 semester hours in physics. (Note: course work must have included a
fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any
two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics,
modern physics, and sound.)*OR*
B. Have a combination of education and experience and the courses are
equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours,
plus appropriate experience or additional education.
*In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement, applicants must
demonstrate the following specialized experience:*
Have at least one year of specialized experience comparable in
difficulty and responsibility to ZP-03 (GS-12 level work) in the Federal
service. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing
atmospheric physics research related to climate and air quality;
planning, coordinating, and executing atmospheric composition projects;
developing, performing, and analyzing state-of-the-art mass
spectroscopic measurements of volatile organic compounds (VOCs); and
preparing and delivering presentations and peer-reviewed scientific
publications.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer
work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps,
AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic;
religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps
build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide
valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid
employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience,
including volunteer experience.
